BooksBanned.org was started by two friends that share the same passion and disgust for what is happening in the world around them. They also happened to be developers. With little success in finding clear information about which books were actually banned and why, the BooksBanned index was born. Our mission is to give people a place to find more information, voice their opinion and eventually fight back against governments and school boards that are more interested in removing pride flags and banning literature than protecting the once honored teaching profession and allowing young minds to learn truth. We stand to support the children and educators that are under attack against establishments that sees supporting children and teens for who they are as indoctrination. We stand against teaching fabricated history that prioritizes a nationalized narrative before an accurate one.

We firmly believes that history, in all its complex and often uncomfortable realities, must be preserved and made accessible. It is through an unvarnished examination of our past, that we learn, grow, and build a better future. The banning of books is tantamount to erasing history, suppressing voices, and inhibiting the free exchange of ideas. Through our efforts, we aim to keep those voices alive, contributing to the diversity of thought that forms the core of any thriving society. "You can't erase history," and neither should we allow anyone to do so.

Our initiative underscores the vital principle that truth should never be suppressed simply because it makes us uncomfortable. Discomfort often signals the presence of long-standing prejudices that need to be confronted and understood, not hidden away. It is our hope that by making banned books more visible and accessible, we can foster a community of critical thinkers who are unafraid of the truth, no matter how disquieting it may be. We invite you to join us in this important endeavor: "Just because something makes you feel uncomfortable doesn't mean it's not true." Let's collectively transform that discomfort into knowledge, understanding, and action.

How you can help

Your active participation is crucial to the success and accuracy of our mission at BooksBanned.org. We invite you to submit information about banned books that might be absent from our current archive. Additionally, if you notice any inaccuracies or need for updates in our existing entries, your suggestions would be invaluable. By aiding us in this way, you ensure that our resource remains reliable and comprehensive, benefiting all who seek to understand more about the nature of book banning and censorship.

Purchasing these banned books is another powerful method to demonstrate your support. Not only does it financially assist the authors, many of whom may have faced backlash for their work, but it also sends a clear message about the value of diverse and challenging literature. We encourage you to share these books with friends and family, sparking conversations and broadening perspectives. Each book bought and read is a small victory for intellectual freedom and a blow against censorship.

Many of our resources and the structure of our archive owe a great deal to our dedicated team of volunteers, as well as reputable sources like the American Library Association (ALA). Beyond contributing to our archive, you can make a significant impact by spreading the word about our website and its purpose. Additionally, contacting your congressional representative to voice your concerns about book banning and censorship can lead to substantial policy changes. Together, we can build a more informed society that values and protects the freedom of expression.
